Coastal Women's Shelter Ride to End Domestic Violence

Coastal Women’s Shelter announces the annual benefit motorcycle ride on Saturday, October 3, 2020. Over 200 motorcycle riders are expected to participate in a 109-mile ride that winds through scenic roads of Craven, Pamlico and Beaufort counties. This ride will begin at Harley-Davidson of New Bern and end at Union Point Park where the fun will continue in pig pickin’ and beer garden, entertainment and a blood drive also to benefit Coastal Women’s Shelter. This event will kick off National Domestic Violence Awareness month. 

This is a rain or shine event. Check in will be at 9:00am at Harley-Davidson of New Bern. Kick stands up at 11:00 am when the ride will begin.

Tickets are $20.00 for motorcycle riders; $10.00 for motorcycle passengers including meal ticket; non-riders $10.00 for meal ticket for participants at Union Point Park. Purchase tickets online at https://cwsmotorcycleride20.ticketleap.com

Motorcycle riders and their passengers will need to sign a waiver before the ride begins at check in on October 3rd at Harley-Davidson of New Bern.

Blood Drive will be held by The Blood Connection’s bloodmobile at Union Point Park, 210 E. Front Street, New Bern, NC, from 11:00am to 4:00pm. To make an appointment online go to:

Boneyard Harley Davidson- Benefit Ride for Cannon Hinnant

Benefit ride for Cannon Hinnant. We are asking $20 a bike- $5 for passengers, $20 18 Wheelers, and $10 for regular cars and trucks- due at time of registration. Registration begins at 9:30 at Boneyard Harley Davison in Winterville. Kick stands go up at 12 pm! All money will be divided between Cannon’s family and Ronald McDonald house! We will have T-shirts, decals, helmet stickers and many other items for sale. Ride starts at Boneyard Harley and goes to the Big Boy Truck Stop in Kenly, North Carolina. A 50/50 raffle, live entertainment and more at the truck stop!

Richlands Rotary 25th Annual Reverse Drawing

STYLE! $5,000 GRAND PRIZE! Sat, Oct 10 6:30 pm at First Christian Church. Enjoy a steak dinner and watch the drawing on an outdoor screen from your car or from socially distanced tables set up outside. If you’d like to watch from home, you may just drive through and pick up two TO-GO steak dinners (per purchased ticket) prepared on site by Golden Corral, and watch our live broadcast on Facebook Live. You need not be present to win the reverse raffle prizes. The festivities will kick off at 6:30 pm. We will have tables set up inside and outside if you’d like to stay for dinner and the reverse drawing. *We are required to request that you wear a face covering when you are within 6 ft of others.* **50/50 Raffle Tickets will be sold during the event. Walk to End Alzheimer's Jacksonville

The Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® will take place on Saturday, Oct. 17.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s - Jacksonville which attracts thousands each year to raise awareness and funds to fight Alzheimer’s disease will look different this year. Instead of hosting a large gathering, the Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern North Carolina Chapter is encouraging participants to walk as individuals or in small groups on sidewalks, tracks and trails across Onslow County.  

This year’s Walk will include three components. On Walk day, an Opening Ceremony will feature local speakers and a presentation of Promise Flowers to honor the personal reasons participants join together to fight Alzheimer’s and all other dementia, all delivered to participants' smartphones, tablets and computers. Next, everyone will walk in their own neighborhoods with their family and friends.  Finally, the Alzheimer’s Association will create the iconic Promise Garden in a “view only” format that participants can drive by on Walk day at to honor all those impacted by Alzheimer’s.

North Carolina Guardian Ad Litem

We are a non-profit government agency that recruits, trains and supports volunteers to represent abused and neglected children in court.  Due to COVID-19, families are experiencing greater stress and we are already seeing an increase in the number of children coming into foster care.  We need help getting the word out about our need for more volunteers in Carteret, Craven and Pamlico counties. Hope for the Warriors Youth Recreation Sports Scholarship

Applications are now being accepted for the Hope For The Warriors and New Balance military child recreation scholarship. Multiple nationwide scholarships will be awarded for 2020 fall and 2021 spring recreational sports seasons to children under 18 years-old, whose parent served in the U.S. military after September 11, 2001. 

Scholarship recipients will be selected based on his/her eligibility and responses to two essay questions. Scholarship payments will be directly sent to the applicable recreational sports program.

The application deadline for fall scholarships (fall sports) is September 1 and spring scholarship (spring sports) is November 1.

Announcing the 19th Annual Down East Holiday Show to be held Virtually 
the weekend following the election on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 
November 6th, 7th and 8th.  Shopping begins ONLINE at 8am on Friday continuing through Sunday at 12 midnight.  

This year, everyone can Shop Until They Drop from the Comfort of their Own Home with a single donation of Ten Dollars ($10) providing access to our virtual marketplace.  That’s right….One Admission is good for all shoppers in your home, for All Three Days, at the Virtual Down East Holiday Show. 

The Down East Holiday Show traditionally features over 185 Vendors at the Greenville Convention Center attracting shoppers from North Carolina and Virginia.  This years’ Virtual Show will include some of our regular vendors who are set up online that our shoppers know and enjoy with quality merchandise and gifts for everyone on your shopping list. We will also have some new vendors that are participating.

The Down East Holiday Show is the largest annual fundraising event held by the 
Pitt Community College Foundation.  All proceeds go to support Student Scholarships and Educational Activities at Pitt Community College!

HOPE FOR THE WARRIORS RESCHEDULES  15th ANNUAL RUN FOR THE WARRIORS - JACKSONVILLE

JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (March 24, 2020) – Hope For The Warriors 15th Annual Run For The Warriors - Jacksonville scheduled for April 4 has been rescheduled for Saturday, Nov. 14.

Hosted at Riverwalk Crossing Park in Jacksonville, the event features a half marathon and 5K, with all races adaptive equipment friendly.

Individuals already registered for the April event can transfer their registration to the Nov. 14 run. Another option is to donate their entry fee to Hope For The Warriors for a full tax deduction.

Those who choose to transfer to Nov. 14 will be guaranteed a 15th Annual Run For The Warriors - Jacksonville t-shirt.

Volunteer Drive

Albemarle Commission’s Senior Nutrition Program is seeking Meals on Wheels volunteers for routes in Camden, Chowan, Currituck, Dare, Gates, Hyde, Pasquotank, Perquimans, Tyrrell and Washington counties in North Carolina. There is an urgent need for volunteers in Chowan and Pasquotank counties, who have a waiting list for potential clients due to lack of volunteers. Routes start at 11 am, Monday through Friday. Each route takes about an hour to complete. Volunteering as little as one day a month makes a huge impact for our home bound seniors.
