West Carteret Marching Patriots Band Boosters 1st Annual Bbq and

The West Carteret band boosters will be holding our first Annual Bbq and Blue jeans on Saturday Aug.24th from 6-11 pm. At the Crystal Coast civic center.This is a fundraiser to help offset exspencs for our trip to Grand Nationals in Indianapolis Indiana. This is a ticketed event catered by Fat Fellas bbq from Newport. We will have a cash bar and entertainment by Bryan Mayer!  There will also be a slient auction  and 50/50 Raffle. Here is your chance to come out and enjoy a fun filled evening and help support these kids on their upcoming trip! Tickets are $25 and can be purchased online at https://www.westcarteretbands.com/ or picked up in person at The Big Rock Barber Shop in Morehead City at 4101 Arendell St.

Mad Boar Block Party for Hope for the Warriors

Join us on Saturday, August 24th for our 4th annual Mad Boar Block Party to help raise funds to benefit Hope For The Warriors.
Local favorites The Johnson Boys will entertain the crowd as we celebrate our troops and raise money for a great organization that makes it their mission to help our veterans and their families.

Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. This year’s event will be inside in our Celtic Court with seating and a buffet dinner (items listed below).

In addition to the music and food, we will have former MLB players Johnny Bench and Doug Flynn on site to sign autographs.  Hope for the Warriors will also be raffling off some gift items, so be sure to bring cash to help further the mission!

CARTS Outreach Series

Craven Area Rural Transit System (CARTS) has scheduled a public outreach and information sharing series between August 20, 2019 and September 10, 2019 to achieve two goals. One is to share information regarding the transportation services CARTS provides to the public in Craven,
Pamlico and Jones Counties. The other is to receive information from the public regarding their transit needs.

The public outreach events will be held:

Make That Change No Bully Music Festival

The No Bully Music Festival will be the first event for Make That Change on Saturday, September 28, 2019. Our expectation is that a majority of Swansboro and its surrounding communities will attend and participate in uniting the community to send a message that bullying behavior/violence in schools is NOT ACCEPTABLE. There will be entertainment from the Swansboro High School Marching Band, Pure T Mommicked, The Ryan Cain Band, and Victor Spoils the creators of our theme song Bully. This will be a community-wide, family inclusive event -- an immersive experience for all ages. At the Pugliese Pavilion at Olde Town Square right in the heart of historic Swansboro.

2nd Annual La Grange Rotary Club LobsterFest

Tickets are now available for the 2nd Annual La Grange Rotary Club LobsterFest.  Live Maine lobsters will be here on October 4, 2019 from 4pm-6pm.  Advanced purchase tickets are suggested.  There will be a limited number for walk up sales. There will be two pickup locations available this year. Live and prepaid orders can be picked up in Kinston at 3101 West Vernon Avenue.  Live or cooked on site lobsters can be picked up at 410 East Washington Street, La Grange,  Each lobster is 1 to 1 1/2 lbs.  Live lobsters are $16 each and cooked on site lobsters are $19 each. Pactolus Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, Inc. Annual BBQ

The Pactolus Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, Inc. will be having its Annual BBQ Fundraiser on Friday October 4th 2019.

It will be held at the Department’s main station located at 5858 US 264 East Greenville NC 27834. This is on US 264 in between Greenville and Washington NC.

Food will be served from 11am to 7pm OR until we run out of food.

We are requesting a donation of $8 per plate.

All proceeds will go towards supporting the department in its efforts to provide prompt and effective emergency services to our community.

Your plate will include your choice of Pork BBQ OR ½ BBQ Chicken (Sorry – no combinations are available), Cole Slaw, Red Potatoes, and Hushpuppies. Tea will also be available on site and there will be desserts for sale as well. You can eat in or take out.

Bulk sales of meats and vegetables are possible; however, we do ask you contact us at least one week in advance for large orders.

We will also be having a 50-50 Raffle drawing at the end of the day; you can purchase tickets when you get your food. You do not have to be present to win.

Walk to End Alzheimer's

Registration is now open for the 2019 Walk to End Alzheimer’s®The Alzheimer's Association - Eastern North Carolina Chapter is inviting Jacksonville and surrounding area residents to turn their community into a sea of purple and help take steps to fight Alzheimer’s.

 

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s – Jacksonville will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19 at the Riverwalk Park, located at 421 Court Street in Jacksonville. Check-in opens at 9:00 a.m. and the Opening Ceremonies will begin at 10:00 a.m.

 

Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s® participants will complete a two-mile walk and will learn about Alzheimer’s disease, advocacy opportunities, clinical studies enrollment, and support programs and services from the Alzheimer’s Association. Walk participants will also join in a meaningful tribute ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

 

“We invite the community to join us in taking steps for Alzheimer’s disease to support those who are among the 170,000 North Carolina residents living with Alzheimer’s and their 473,000 caregivers,” said Lisa Roberts, executive director of the Eastern North Carolina Chapter. “Our Walks are a wonderful opportunity for everyone to come together to help end this disease and to raise critically need funds for Alzheimer’s research and local support services.”

 

The Alzheimer’s Association – Eastern North Carolina Chapter hosts six walks across eastern North Carolina including: Fayetteville, Jacksonville, New Bern, Robeson County, the Triangle Area and Wilmington. Picturing America: Making Tracks

Braswell Memorial Library, Rocky Mount, NC is proud to present Let's Talk About It a library discussion series sponsored by the North Carolina Humanities Council and the North Carolina Center for the Book. This fall's series is Picturing America: Making Tracks. The programs start August 27, 2019 and continue every Tuesday evening at 6PM through October 22, 2019. 

As the art and literature of the past 150 years reveal, the railway has had a profound impact on Americans sense of mobility and range of opportunities and on their thinking about time and distance. Making Tracks, part of the Let's Talk About It Picturing America series, includes two nonfiction books, a selection of poems, a documentary film and a novel.
